anyone have random bald spots on head, arms and legs?

I have AA but it might as well be AT,

A week or so ago i noticed bald spots on my arms, and a few days ago i noticed some on my legs too.

Anyone have that going on? and if so, did it turn into AU?

I feel like i need to order eyebrows and eyelashes before they start falling out as well

    Hi weeping willlow,

I'm sure I don't have to tell you what a crazy condition AA can be.

I have never had much arm or leg hair after being almost AT at 4. The lack of hair on the arms and legs didn't affect any periods of regrowth that I experienced through the years. I had never lost lashes or brows until this last bout. It was quite as shock when that happened I can't say I'm AU at this time because the eyelashes came back and now I'm seeing a few eyebrow hairs too.

I have been hearing from and talking to those with AA for almost 8 years now. In all that time I have never heard from anyone having the same AA experience as anyone else not even sisters in the same family. It's frustrating not to be able to compare or predict.

One statistic that may be a small comfort for you to know is that only 1% of those with AA go on to AU .

    Hugs,
    Joann

Thanks Joann, I know the chances of AU for me are slim.. But i'm just worried. I've never lost limb hair before.

    Hi weeping willow,

I understand your worry and concern. The unpredictability of AA is one of the hardest aspects to cope with. It's so very normal to be worried when you experience loss of hair on other parts of your body. However, try to keep in mind that it is not necessarily an indicator of a severe outcome.

Keeping in mind that nothing about AA can be written in stone here are possible indicators of a poorer prognosis:

    The onset occurs in childhood
The initial bout of hair loss affects more than half your scalp
    You have Down's syndrome
You have an atopic disease such as atopic eczema
You have eyelash and /or eyebrow hair loss
You have a family history of alopecia areata
You have ophiasis (alopecia areata of the scalp margin)
    You have nail changes
    You have another auto-immune disease

At 4 years of age I had 5 of the indicators for a poor prognosis and yet my hair did regrow by the time I was 6.

    Hugs,
    Joann
