I admit it was great to not have periods any longer, but really, I think about the amount of hormones it takes to achieve something like that in the female body. I just cringe when I see contraceptive adds on TV that talk about how your period will come once ever 3-4 months or so. Those women will probably be on this site eventually wondering what the hell happened to make their hair fall out. Mirena employs the same hormone that Norplant does--I think a lot of women lost hair on that too. I'm pretty sure that if I never had the Mirena I wouldn't have been dealing with hair loss until I was much older (when you naturally thin due to menopause). I seriously wonder sometimes if some of these birthcontrol companies buy stock in Rogaine or other companies that make minoxidil knowing that their products cause female hairloss.

QUESTION - Do you know if Minox can be used with Folligen? I will order some of it pronto ...the question ...did you notice a increase in shed when you started to use it?

Hi Carli, --I'm sorry you're feeling down. Just to drop in quickly to say that yes, Folligen can be used with minox and in fact is recommended to help with the scalp irritation caused by minox. I guess if you check the SkinBiology site or the internet, you could find info on how to use them together/order of application etc. I just don't know that part because I don't use minox.

Feel better soon :)

I have wanting to try folligen for soooo long! I needed to hear this....

CONGRATS!

Thank you and Go You! Just an fyi--I use the spray type and I found it worked best for me because it's not greasy like the lotion type and you can spray in your hair and then style it.

Hi CarliGali--If you haven't found the information yet--Dr. Pickart recommends applying the minox, waiting one minute and then using the folligen. Folligen will drive anything you put on your head into your follicles further. I read about Alpecian, and I am not convinced about it's effectiveness! Dr. Pickart is a biologist and he does have a forum where you can ask him about using Alpecian with folligen. Whatever you do, go slowly with the folligen--I admit there were a few times in the beginning that I had sprayed too much folligen on my head and had to rinse my head in the sink because my scalp was too stimulated. Dr. Pickart recommends everyone start slowly and build up and you can even dilute some folligen to begin with until your scalp gets used to it.

I looked up the ingredients for Alpecian:

Ingredients:
Aqua, Alcohol Denat., Parfum, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Panthenol, Menthol, Caffeine, Zinc PCA, Niacinamide, Limonene, Linalool, Citric Acid, Tocopheryl Acetate, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Citronellol, Citral, Retinyl Acetate.

Alcohol and perfume is the second and third ingredients! That could potentially really bother your scalp--I'm almost certain it would bother mine. Please be careful with this product!

Yes, there was more of a shed initially. I think it's the same premise as minox--it kicks some of the hairs that are loosely hanging in there out and refurbishes the follicle. It can be a little scary at first, which is another reason to go slowly. Eventually though all that shedding comes to a screaching halt, and that is a good day! Better to lose a little more hair in the beginning from treating the problem than to have it keep falling out for several more years by not using it, ya know? You just have to mentally muscle through it knowing that it will stop.

No, I only asked about the shampoo followed by copper peptides and not Alpecin liquid.

Just curious...if you were to stop using the Folligen, would you have the same reaction and lose what ever hair is gained like you do if you stop minox?

Hi, can anyone tell me the difference between tricomin and folligen? Is it both copper peptides? Is one a spray? That doesn't sound right - doesn't it go more on your hair than your scalp?

OP: why did you stop minox? If you stopped in December and were having a shed a month ago doesn't that mean it probably was because you stopped minox?

Lots of questions today, I'm obviously not up to date.

Yea for the hairs sticking on the head! May it happen to us all.
