Today I saw a Trichologist and he diagnosed FPHL aka AGA.
He was recommended to me but I didn't think much of him (I don't doubt the diagnosis though) as I felt rushed and I felt he got tired of me asking so many questions. In the end I shut up and then came out feeling annoyed as afterall I had paid a hefty amount and traveled a fair distance to see him.
Anyway, i'll get to the point.
He sold me some 'Estradex Lotion', this is topical and gives the scalp oestrogen and minoxidil and some other stuff. I was wondering what you think of the ingredients and also wondered if using topical minoxidil and taking an oestrogen high pill would have the same effect. I ask this as obviously its going to prove very expensive to continue purchasing this Lotion from him and I really can't afford it :-( .
So here are the ingredients(there are no commas between ingredients, I have typed out exactly as on the bottle):
Minoxidilium (5%) Estradolium Humulus Lupus Trifolium Pratence Mentol Piroctone
Olamine Hydroticum Serenoa Serulata Acidum Nicotinidum Azaleic compound

I'd be very grateful for any help/advice.
Thankyou!!

I think you may wind up getting ripped off using that stuff. Those ingredients sound like they have been made up! Seriously, don't waste your money on that . Try store-bought minoxidil and ask your impatient doctor about oral spirolactone or a anti-androgen birth control pill to help counteract the androgens in your system causing the thinning. It may help slow down the process. But dont bother with that lotion..it sounds suspect to me. Just my opinion!

Thanks Amanda
I am quite disappointed as this Trichologist is a reputable one, however I question anyone, even a qualified&reputable trich, who sells me an expensive product. I may ring him tomorrow and say I can't afford the treatment and can he suggest another cheaper treatment.

In the UK, Sheffield. He is a Trichologist, registered with The Institute of Trichologists and bound by certain ethics etc. Anyway, it doesn't matter coz i've worked my own potion out, thanks to him  . I'm copying my post from another site where i've just posted it:

just spent about 4hours doing research on ALL of the ingredients listed in this product. Thank god the ingredients were listed! Decided that I won't be ordering anymore but will make up my own potion according to the ingredients (and equivalents) in this product.

Expensive Product: :-) Julies version:

Minoxidilium(5%) :-) Minoxidil (5%)
Estradolium :-) Dong Quai (contains phytoestrogens
- known to stabilize and even reverse
genetic hair loss.)

Humulus Lupus :-) Saw Palmetto (both reduce levels of DHT)

Trifolium Pratence :-) I'm not bothering with, not much evidenc

Piroctone Olamine :-) Nizoral (Same process)

Hydroticum Serenoa :-) Both of these are in Saw Palmetto
Serulata Acidum

Nicotinidum :-) Minoxidil (both are vasodilators)

Azaleic compound :-) Saw Palmetto (both inhibit DHT)

Thankyou for the internet and its resources.

Product I was sold cost 47.50 for 6-8weeks
My combination costs maximum of 18pounds per month and minimum of 9.50/mh (depending on which prep of Saw Pal I use)

Well all this constructive research has temporarily taken my mind away from the horrible fact that I have AGA :-(. I feel more hopeful now though, and pleased that i've found my own cheap formulation based on the expensive product sold to me (thanks Tricho, heh)

Btw i'm not suggesting this potion for anyone else, just saying what i've worked out for myself.
