Reason I'm asking is my last few periods have been irregular and I'm hot flushing, getting tired and headaches and now getting periods in between periods. I did an FSH test (Follicle Stimulating Hormone/menopause) test twice an they came up positive. I ent to see my GP this morning and she's sending me for blood tests and triple swabs next week as premature menopause runs in my family. So do autoimmune diseases and apparently they're connected, or can be. Anyone else experience this? I'm not looking forward to the results as I'm 38 and haven't had any children of my own although I have an adorable stepson.

 I respond to many many post with advice , However ... This one hit home ! Last January, I had the Swine flu for 9 horrible days with horrible fevers and had to take anti viral meds. My monthly cycle was always like clock work , on time every month all my life until January when I got so sick. Exactly 2.5 months after the flu and late cycles My hair began falling like mad for 6 weeks . I Lost over 3000+ hairs in the shower at one time. I think I was in shock but I managed to put this massive hair ball in a Zip lock freezer bag and drove to the Dr's office crying and shaking at the front desk begging to see my Dr. The woman took me right back . The Dr. took one Look at me and said " we need mayjor blood work ." This was March 31, 2014. He took blood and tested for , testosterone , FSH showed I was in the menopause stage at age 39, Iron, Ferritin 77 TSH 1.3 AND then tested for Auto immune a test called an ANA Direct pannel Mine is positive and a Anti DNA test wich was negative I also tested positive for anti Sm SSA antibodies and Anti Sm SSB antibodies

This then told the Dr For one I still have a period they are just every 6 weeks or so.. So he said my FSH was reading off due to my cycle being a mess and not testing during ovulation but if anything I was beginning Peri meno pause... Need further testing to comfirm this . I have no clue when to set up the test because I never know when to exspect my mid cycle or ovulation :/
The ANA being positive told the Dr. I Most deefonatly have an auto immune condition. Having positive antibodies confirmed this . The SSB was high and causes dry hair, skin, mouth and eyes, Known to be present in people with Sjogrens syndrome which is a auto immune disease. The SSA causes Sun sensitivity or floresent light sensitivity. Which explaines why I feel dizzy and nausiated and break out into massive sweats all over . This explaines why all of a sudden this year I could not be out in the Sun for very long. And here I thought it was just the heat.

There are many different types of Auto immune However due to my test they sent me to a Rheumatologist for Much more further auto immune blood work and 16 different exrays. I should finally have my result back this friday. It took 3 months to get an appointment to see this specialist .

I was told same as you That hairloss , missed cycles monthly or late or different from normal all at once can be linked to auto immune

Reason being: when our hormones are messed up it throws off our monthly cycle, and when hormones are not balanced it throughs the bodies entire system inside out of whack . This is usually when hair fall begins and we go see a Dr. for blood work . in Kentucky where I live it is standard for the Dermatologist to test all the usual test for Hair loss along with the ANA to test for autoimmune . My Dr. and Derm both said that hair fall can be the first sign of Auto immune If it was sudden rapid and quick Like TE and then slows down with no other reasons such as Birth of a child, Surgery, antistesia, Extreme trama such as death in family , divorce or stopping of Birth control or switching of birth control.

Aparently when the body gets a shock and is all out of wack, hormones that are used to regulate the body seem to argue and fight against each other , cause sluggish thyroid and addrenals it can cause our auto immune system to begin to go into over drive and attack thing inside the body that it should not be attacking.

I will find out more answers to 30 more questions I have come Friday.

In therory, 4 out of the 7 I have seen in almost 7 months time have all agreed that my horrible Flu in January kicked off TE and caused my auto immune system to go crazy inside creating all these Strange symptoms one by one... Monthly cycles off, tired all the time, chronic back and joint pain for 6 months , sensitivty to the heat and sun, sudden migraines and I never had one of those before in my life , and a missed and very late monthy cycle was the first sign and the next was massive TE.

Hoping this helps . When I get the chance to speak with the specialist again on Friday I will have 30 more answers to a puzzel that has yet to be solved or treated or diagnossed . I will update info then .

Sorry for the late reply Shannon I've been terribly stressed and upset. How did your appointment go? I saw my GP on Monday as I was bleeding very heavily only a week after my last period and cramping. Also the painkillers she gave me caused sever acid reflex & vomiting so she changed the dose. I'm also taking antihistamines as I seem to be allergic to EVERYTHING. Again, this is a new development. Like you I have also had swine flu...some years ago...I don't know if it kicked off the Alopecia Universalis problems...it might well have done but so much has gone on since then it's hard say. I am also suspected of having Sjorens Syndrome as I have all the symptoms but the blood test came up negative for antibodies...although I have read that in some cases a person can still have an Alopecia Universalis disease and the bloods won't show it up.

So today should be the second day of my cycle. Like you I was always regular as clockwork: if I was only a day out of sync that was very unusual. It's only been the last three or four months thinks have gone out of whack. Highly, highly unusual for me. I saw a nurse today who took a blood test for menopause plus a bunch of other stuff: ferratin I think plus she took swabs in case it was an infection although goodness knows where I could have picked one up from as I am in total love with my long distance bf and we are faithful to each other. I'm confused though: today was meant to be (according to my last period) the second day of my cycle but no sign of any blood although I'm still having cramps. I'm also getting daily headaches which is unusual for me. Also I'm worried that the blood test won't pick anything up. I hear sometimes they don't. I mean I think you are supposed to get tested with bloods for menopause/high fsh on the 2-5th day of your cycle (when you're bleeding) but although, on paper, this is the right time to test I'm not bleeding so is it really the second day of my cycle or was the bleeding I experienced last week an early period? In which case when I tested on day 3 of it and the FSH came out positive I tested on the right day if you know what I mean. I'm confused.

Pretty Lady, I'm so sorry I had not been online, Due to our cycles being a mess. We wont get a correct reading. and many times you do have auto Immune and they do not show on test until later. When progressed enough for antiboties to be high enough . This is why for now they can only give me the Sjogrens diagnosis because not all of the Lupus signs are showing up. Only 5 of the 9 I need . These issues take many years to FINALLY get diagnosed . Hold on to what YOU know and feel and keep screaming until someone medically hears you my dear. ! Sorry so short, had 2 deaths in on day and it has been really hard !

I'm wondering how they can determine FSH levels and this perimenopause a all due to messed up cycles. I changed GP surgeries in June to a much better one as the old one completely ignored both my Sjogrens Syndrome & Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and one of the first things my new GP said was 'we must look into you're SS as it an lead to Lupus.' So maybe if I get re-tested for antibodies they'll show up now? Seen as it's been a while do you think? I'm just fed up with it all now and feeling lonely my long distance bf and his son went back to the US recently after a spending a few weeks with me and I keep having horrible dreams coz of the PTSD and worry over current situation with bf ect then there's the constant headaches and period pans even hough there's no blood there. Odd. Do you ever get that? I'm just getting worried now...I want a definitive answer as to whether I'm in perimenopause or not.

That's awful about the two deaths, I had a bunch of people die on me a few years back all in one go: not on the same day though but over a few months. Doesn't do the hair growth much good! *hugs*
