Hi everyone. A little about myself. I am almost 42 and have been dealing with hair loss since I was in my 20's. I had tons of hair to start with so it has only been in the last 7 years that it has become more noticeable. I have tried a little of everything to no avail. I have been on Rogaine and Propecia for 2 years now and had really not noticed any real improvement. Constant shedding was the real problem. About a month ago I again went on a hunt for recent studies on female hair loss. I found a study in the last few years that found the majority of women with hair loss also had a Vitamin D deficiency. So I decided to buy some Vitamin D3. I have now been taking about 6000 u a day with a target of 50,000u a week and to my wonderful surprise the shedding has stopped. I now see many small little hairs popping up in the front of my scalp. I am so excited that I wanted to spread the work. Good luck to all!

    Wow, nursebermudez! Congrats!

How long had you taken Vitamin D before you noticed a drop in shedding? What brand of Vitamin D are you taking?
I know I'm low on Vitamin D and I've been shedding since my 20's as well.

Thanks so much for sharing! Please keep us updated! :)

This is so awesome to hear, congrats! :gay2:

I've been thinking about adding D3 to my supplements, but my multivitamin gives me 100% DV of D2. Does anyone know if there's a difference between the two?

Another update. So far so good. Hair loss much improved and new hair sprouting out. I am still taking about 50,000ui of Natures Bounty of Vitamin D3, a week. I never went in to see a doctor to have my levels checked. Partly because I am a nurse and so we go in for Doctors visits only when we are dying...LOL. We make the worst patients. Partly because I am upset about it. Here I have suffered through hair loss for years, went in to see general physicians and specialists. Nobody ever thought about testing any Vitamin D or Iron levels. I self diagnosed myself given my lack of sun exposure. The study I read, most of the women had very low Vitamin D levels, so it almost seems they go hand in hand. Anyhow, I encourage you all to seek medical advice. I plan on tapering off in a few weeks to around 4000ui a day for a maintenance dose. I chose Vitamin D3 since I have always seen physicians it for Vitamin D supplementation. Good luck to you all.

Could you please tell me what brand of Vit D3 you are taking. I believe there is a connection between hair loss and vit D too. Are you taking any other supplements like iron?

    Thanks

Hi! I am so incredibly happy with my hair. I am back to loving it and not being disappointed by it. Hair loss is at low levels I haven't seen since my early 20's. new hair is sprouting out everywhere. I dumped out all my other supplements and taking just my Vitamin D3 at 6000 units a day. I also take propecia and regaine. However, propecia and rogaine never stopped hair loss. I urge everyone to try it. Good luck.

Please continue to update your progress! I know I'm deficient in Vitamin D so I'm hoping supplements will stop my shedding/hair loss as well.

Wow... you want to be careful with it. Too much vit D can be dangerous. Read the notice. I have a big deficiency (6!) and my doctor only prescribed me 100,00 ui every 15 days 4 times, and then 100,00ui every 2 months.
