Re: Diane 35 making things worse???to Alicat and Angie

My Endo did not want to treat my antibodies because she didnt feel the need to. I told her my hair is thinning and she said "Yes, I see that". I cried a little more that day. Also I went to see a derm in los angeles that told me me I was a class II on the ludwig scale (More than I thought) And I have gotten worse since then. He also said there is NO treatment other than birth control and Rogaine. He is supposedly a hair loss expert!!! The only thing he could offer besides that was a compunded solution with Rogaine and Spironolactone to use which HE sells. I told him I would try the birth control and continue using the 5% Rogaine. Birth control has NOT HELPED me thus far. Its been 4 months. And I am worse off than before starting it, yet it has not caused a shed. So how can it be doing harm to my hiar?? have NO clue.
Also derms have told me that only abnormal thyroid levels would cause hair loss, not being on the "low or high side of normal" of anything on a blood test for that matter...I WISH it was the antibodies causing this, at least then I would know what to take to treat it

maybe the shed is a good sign it's "dread shed"..hair loss treatment...do that after 3 to six months..all the bad hair get out of your scalp and then some new better hair will grow back.and also some of the hair you lost might come back..

    you said you were thinning???

i am confused..thinning is not shedding..i know..but if you really thin out a lot you must have some shedding as well..otherwise the thinning cannot occur??
    oh well...

give it a couple of month and see what 's going on
    this sounds weird

    LOL, it is weird!!!!

I do not count the hairs I shed, but I cannot imagine it being more than 100 hairs a day.
But each month I notice my part is widening a little more, and 4 months ago I had a widows peak and now it has like 5 hairs there, half of which are short. Thats the thing, I have all these short hairs popping up since being on the Diane but yet my hair is looking thinner (More scalp) If it was regrowth it would be covering my scalp more, not less. But they are short hairs that look healthy. I have not dyed my hair lately so they cant be broken. Maybe my hair is trying to grow but its not keeping up with the "Normal" shed rate. :hairy:

if your part is widening you are not growing back the hair you shed..

When i was 17 up till 21 i saw my part was gettin wider yet i did not shed massively, i guess some of my hair would just stop growing back...it's kinda what you experience..but this happened in several years...in 4 months such thinning is sudden so it might still be a dread shed.. :dunno:

    i dont know
befoer stopping itiwould make sur to know it is actually the cause...

the reason might also be diane 35isnot potent enough for you and you Androgenetic Alopecia is stronger.stick with it and add Spironolactone to your regimen and see if it works

Yeah. But why would my Androgenetic Alopecia progress faster while on this pill vs off it?That doesnt make sense.. ANy suggestions?

Some birth controls can cause more hair loss, so sometimes it's better to be off of it. Perhaps trying Yaz or Yasmin, to see if there's a difference. I've heard some good stories about the both of them. Diane 35 might be potent for most people, but everyone's different. What would happen if you stopped it completely?

    Bunnyheather,

I have exactly the same problem as you! I am also on Diane (for 7 months now), i do not use rogaine (i am allergic) and still; thinning, while I do not shed that much. Well, more then i want to, because my shedding is more then a month ago and I am worrying where it will end and why the hell my shed has increased!! I have rheuma since a few monts.

DO NOT (i repeat) DO NOT STOP diane! This is very hairfriendly, even we might not notice it. My derm says (a hairspecialist) that we do not notice diane works; UNTILL we stop. He says: it always works, even if it is a little. It is very very unlikely that an increase in shedding is due to diane.

So, I have the same questions as you; why the hell am I thinning so fast, I loose about 50 to 60 hairs a day, while I am also now on medication. I am very worried about it.

I will start finasteride 2,5mg after I have taken my new medicins for rheuma for 3 months. I am afraid now that the rheuma medicin will cause liverproblems and while starting fina at the same time i might be too much for the liver (this is something no doctor can confirm, but reading about the medicins i had to conclude that), I cannot see what medicin does what to the body then.

So, bunny; what should we do??? I am lost also.

GoodYear, are you still thinning while losing 50-60 hairs a day. It seems like a normal shed.

A lot of ppl with Androgenetic Alopecia don't shed. The hairs are simply shrinking and not growing back. Or so I've read!

wow. i am very surprised that your endo didn't want to help you with you. maybe i am mistaken, but i thought that positive antibodies meant that your body is attacking your thyroid???

i just...ahhh. can you see a different doctor for a different opinion?

Perhaps she just thinks that it isn't serious enough to treat, but it might be a good idea to treat them since it is possibly causing your hair loss. I would go and see her again and ask her exactly why she doesn't want them treated.

    Goodyear,

Has your "thinning" sped up though while on DIane? Meaning, before you started it, was your hair just slowly thinning and now its thinning worse by the month (but not shedding)?? I find it a coincidence that my thinning has sped up while on this pill (faster than its ever thinned). WHat do the docs say about this? Also I have heard of wmone that take BCPS and it makes their hair thin and then they stop and the hair goes to normal....

I just started 1mg fiasteride 1 month ago. I ordered duasteride and will start that when it gets here. I havent found any doctors that will rx me any meds, so I have had to order them myself and get check ups every few months. I see a new derm Tuesday, I pray he can maybe rx me Spironolactone...GOod luck!

Oh, are your eyes RED and DRY while on Diane?? My eyes are constantly bloodshot and dry :(

    Hi Bunnyheather,

I am not sure if the diane speed up my thinning. I had a massive shed because of minoxidil last year (and then I was allergic) and after the shedding suddenly stopped, I only lost about 20-40 hairs a day during 3 months. I still have the feeling that the massive shed (i lost about 200 hairs a day during 7 weeks) made my hair worse. But i did not recover of it and still i think it is thining. It is very difficult for me to say whether this pill should have speed up the thining. My hairloss is not more then before I started diane 35. So, I still think diane is doing good instead of bad. I just cannot imagine that with so many scientific results that diane is good for the hair that it should worsen my hair. I just do not believe that. My thining was already very bad just before I started diane.

My derm says that as a women you should take fina 2,5 mg a day instead of 1 mg. It seems that 1 mg is not working for women. When I start, i am afraid of a fina shedding: do you have an extra shedding because of fina?

Well, I still think it is strange that with a normal shed, my hair is thining. How many hairs do I have to loose so it stabilizes for me? 10 a day orso????

Well, my hair HAS gotten worse since on the Diane. Thinner, especially at the part all the way to the back and the front. I shed maybe 100 hairs a day, but I do not count. I am just guessing because I have heard that that is normal. I have only been on the Finasteride 1 month, so nothing yet. I will start duasteride when I get it in the mail. I still am not shedding more than normal.....

I WISH There was a surefire thing to traget!

Why exactly are you taking the Diane? I might need to start a BC if I have PCOS.

Angie, It is especially for women with hirsutism (too much hair on your body), hormonal hairloss (too less hair on the scalp) and acne. Is contains cyprotereone acetate (CPA), which is a anti-androgene hormone and it has estradiol (estrogen: also good for hair). Almost all other bcp's do have androgene hormones in it and so it is not suitable for hormonal hairloss.

Bunnyheather, still thinking about your thinning and diane. It is indeed very strange, but maybe it was even worse without diane? Hormones change also over time in your body. I just do not know either.

Duta is also bad for your liver (it takes a long time before duta has been taken through the liver. Make sure you take some bloodtests now and then to see if the liver is still ok. It might causes liver cirroses.
