I'm experiencing a lot of thinning (and follicle miniaturization) and some shedding, and though I've been chalking it up to hormone changes (I'm having perimenopause symptoms), I wonder how hair dye affects us. I've been coloring (with permanent dye) my hair since my 20s, as I've had gray coming in since then. Recently, I color it about once every two weeks.

I thought dye only affected the strands, not the follicles...But maybe I'm wrong? Has anyone had good results when they stop dying their hair? On the other hand, I don't know what I'd do if I couldn't color my hair. But...maybe I won't have hair for long. :(

You can use semipermanent dye without ammonia or a natural version like Naturtint, Color & Soin. I noticed more shed in the day when i dye my hair, but i think it's normal.
