I too went back on the pill (Desogen) after my shedding started. I don't know if stopping the pill is what caused TE in the first place as I had too many triggers to be able to isolate to one. But going back on didn't do anything for me. I was just reading on another site that ovulating is the best thing you can do for your hair. In hindsight I wish I hadn't not gone back on.
I've been shedding 6.5 month, if it doesn't start slowing down in the next 1-2 months, my next step might be to stop the pill again, as scary as it is.
I have an appointment with a hair loss specialist in August but I don't know if I can't wait that long.

Great post! Thanks so much for sharing. Apologies if this has been covered already. How soon after you stopped shedding did you notice regrowth? It's been more than a week since my hair loss finally stopped (without any treatment) and I now lose about 15 after a shower. I knew this was my normal as I used to count hair when I didn't have hair loss. I don't want to jinx myself but would like to know what to expect next. :) xxx

Yours sounds like mine. I miss being told "You have heavy hair" and I too, am shedding way less than before, but my hair gets big/poofy (almost like before) when I just wash it but as soon as I braid it and sleep,it's flat and limp. I see those short hair fibers sticking up, and I've had them for years as well. Can't tell if I have more but I can shed 5 or up to 12 of those thin/lifeless hairs on a shower day. And because they are thin, they don't bend and lay, but rather stick up in the air and torment me. If only they could thicken. Probably those are the ones that don't give me my density back. So I agree with you, for me, I think I will see improvements if I can quit the thin hair grow/shed. Very frustrating. I'm going to start my iron today. And I too before shed a lot, but with thick hair that broke rubber bands, I never noticed. I stress a lot mostly about my hair, and do have high normal testosterone. maybe if I can calm down, that number will lower.

    An Update:

Sorry I have been MIA. We ahve been so busy, trying to sell our home, buy a new one, work, etc. Craziness.

However, wanted to let you all know that the TE recovery success continues!!!!!! I am till taking a pre-natal, using biotion supplementing iron and decreasing stress. I do still take .5mg of klonopoin for anxiety and that has been going very well. My density is improving slowly, but it is improving. I am also still using Pur A Dor.

I think for me success has been: quitting BC, losing weight and managing stress. I am very very happy with my progress.

Wolf, I had a terrible hair shed going for 1 month. It stopped now, but diameter of my ponytail shrunk by 1.5 cm (used to be 9 cm)
Anyway, do you know by any chance how to distinguish a hair which is miniaturizing or growing normally ? I see on the top of my head loads of shorter hairs, but I am afraid even to think that this is not a healthy regrowth, but miniaturizing hairs.

Lovely to hear from you Wolf. I think of you when I need hope so I'm glad you're doing well even if it is slow progress.

I take a multivitamin, does the prenatal contain more folic acid perhaps? I wonder if that's a difference that might benefit me. It's so hard for me not to just take BC again as it was stopping it that started this but I have to believe time will cure me. It's been one year next week.

I might look into that shampoo too. I seem to have dry scalp rather than dandruff I think. My shedding is less but still possibly to much for my normal. I'm losing quite a few weak looking hairs 2-3 inches long around my temples mostly. My temples look very sparse. I wish you continued success. Keep us updated. Ccc. :)

Is it the gold or blue label shampoo you use please and do you use the conditioner too? Thank you.

Glad you are doing well Wolf! How are your temples and the one side of your head that was lagging? Did you ever deal with new regrowth that was finer and a lighter color than the rest of your hair or is everything coming in the same density and normal color? Hope your progress will continue!

Hi Barbarina: I wish I had the answer but for me I am going on visual thickness, and density improvement, and being able to see less of my scalp. That has to mean little to no miniaturization, I guess? I wish this was more scientific.

CCC: my vitamin DOES contain 100% folic acid. I wonder if that would help you? I also use the blue label with only coconut oil on the ends of my hair for conditioning.

Distressing: I did have some finer hair come in (not much) right at my temple in September, but weirdly it fell out after an inch or so and now I have thick regrowth that is covering well--tons of improvement there. The right side is still not as dense as the left but its coming in strong. My crown has noticeably more coverage as well, but its also still lagging. I think its because these were the places that were hit hardest and were hit last. My front was hit first and I would say that its a good 65% recovered at this time. If this was all I got back I am super happy with it, but I still see loads of sprouts coning through. I attached a photo. Its so much regrowth I have to wet it to keep it down. I look a bit ridiculous, but this shows just how much hair I actually lost during the CTE.

    YAY FOR YOU!

Yep, this totally happened to me the first 3 months of recovery. It will cycle through some short ones. Do not worry :)

Wolf, your updates mean so much to people. Thank you for coming back.

This is my first post. I have anxiety for the first time in my life over this. I think I have TE. When I went to the derm 3 weeks ago she guessed maybe Androgenetic Alopecia and then after a week, messaged that my ferritin was low. I think it can be that as well as a million other meds i took this year-retinoid, trazadone, spironolactone (apparently this can CAUSE hair loss too). A few days after doctor appointment, my scalp started hurting and burning and well, you all know the story.

Wolf, when you say front of hair, what do you mean? I first noticed thinning right behind hairline that sorta spread out everywhere like a ripple.

I have lost 10 lbs over this anxiety:(

What was your ferritin level Trinitytx?

I had a major TE episode in Oct 14, and low ferritin (mine was under 5) was the only trigger my Dr.s found. I raised my ferritin and my hair is almost fully recovered.

Hang in there, I lost weight during the early phases, that was not one of my problems so I just looked gaunt in addition to my hair looking awful :(

Mine wasn't too low, it was 35. I really think it was medication induced (at least I am counting on it). That's great to hear that you're almost recovered. I need stories like that. How long did your shedding last?

Hi Nes, sorry for the delay in response. It is really hard to keep up with the questions on here--if you want just PM me and I will give you my private email.

Yeah I do see similarities except I am not sure at all where my tapered hair came from--how are you sure its from the nape? Are you pulling at it and then it dislodges?

Your hair looks amazing! I hope my hair looks like that soon! The fact that you've made so much progress judging from those pictures, I'm sure you'll get all your hair back xx

    Life on Yasmin?

Hi! I am considering Yasmin because after 10 months of barley any shed my TE (which I am fairly sure kicked off Androgenetic Alopecia via Loestrin) I still don't see any improvement. Did your shed just stop? Or did you regrow as well? How long did it take for regrowth on Yasmin? Also after you stopped Yasmin how did your hair react? Did it go back to as bad as it was at it's worst? Or just back to pre loss levels?

Hi! I wanted to quickly pop in as I am now at the 2 year mark from when this nightmare started, and 1 year into recovery and I would say I am NOW 85% recovered. More and more each day I am seeing more regrowth in places I thought I would not--IE-crown and vertex. There are no noticeable thin spots anymore, no wide part, no see through anything. I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS RECOVERY IS HAPPENING TO ME. I feel very blessed, but I am also sure, in my specific case, that eating better, sleeping better, taking an anti-anxiety pill (klonopin), working out and taking a pre-natal vitamin, trying to prioritize my life and losing weight has helped me. I never used Rogaine or any other chemical, never went back on birth control and I think for me personally this was the exact right choice.

I never think about my hair unless it is to admire a new cut and color at the salon! I am so SOOOOO happy this is behind me. I think the best advice I can give is GO WITH YOUR GUT, YOU KNOW YOUR BODY. Do what you think it best for YOU, don't allow your own horror story to leak into that of others, NEVER be judgemental of other women going through this, BE SUPPORTIVE, be positive, and spread the love. The world needs that now more than ever. RECOVERY IS POSSIBLE NATURALLY! I am living proof.

Thank you to everyone on here, especially those special few who I have continued to be in touch with outside the forum. I wish recovery and joy to every single person on here.

Hi Wolf. I'm thinking of you. I'm 18months in now and it's getting better. Still a long way off but I can see new growth. I'm hoping the next 6 months bring more improvement! Hope all is well with you. Ccc
