I thought I'd read (maybe by MCAT11, not sure if she's on here anymore) that there's a difference between these two conditions, and that if someone has Alopecia Areata, Spironolactone or finasteride won't work. Any thoughts on this? And how do we know the difference?

Also, is anyone using a combo of topical finasteride and minoxidil? MCAT said she had great success with this treatment.

    Thanks!!

Sorry, everyone, not sure why I wrote 'Alopecia Areata'--I mean to write 'Androgenetic Alopecia'.

Both dermatologists I've seen said that they're the same thing.

Yes, I think you're right (and they're right), Lily. Thanks.
