    Hello Dolls!

I am curious if any long-term rogaine users have been able to maintain their results without using the product every day. Maybe every other day or twice a week?

I am not really a long term user- exactly doing it for 1year and 7 month and yes after a year being on it I started doing it less. May be 3 times a week, after my hair is freshly washed. Also the fact that it is alcohol in it is finally taking its tall - my scalp got very dry (wonder if I am reaking of alcohol too ;-)

Just over 1 year and am maintaining with Minoxidil 3 - 4 times per week. Improvement/density peaked at about 9months and has remained steady every since.

Stopped daily use at about 10 - 11 months, gradually dropping a day here and there. So far everything is staying very stable on this regime.

    Thanks Ladies!

This great news. I am currently doing 5% 1x per day and then 5% + latisse every 3rd night. I would love to be able to get down to just one mixture every third night. I have ways to go though lol. Next friday will only be my 3rd month but its good to know some people are able to reduce usage and all their hair doesnt fall out.

    Barbarina,

I doubt you smell like a bar lol. The amout used is so little and I'm sure any other products you use will mask the light alcohol scent.

    Nerak,

Do you apply it 1 or 2 times per day?

I do 2ml once a day instead of the recomended 1ml twice a day.

This was suggested by my specialist and has worked well for me. Twice a day is too hard when you need to look decent at work.

I cut back after over a year and a half of success this summer because I developed an agonizing itch from the propylene glycol in the liquid Rogaine. I just couldn't put it on every day without wanting to scratch my scalp off. So I went to like 3 times a week. And all my new growth fell out. I had gotten to the point where I felt like I was totally winning the war and then that happened. Too late I discovered the foam version doesn't contain the itchy propylene glycol ingredient, so I started back on that every day. I'm back to 1/2 inch sprouts all over my bang area. I can't believe I had to start over again. Don't be me! Be careful with how many days you taper to.

Im sorry that happened :( ... On the bright side you know rogaine will work for you and you will grow it back.

How long after tapering did it fall out?

Were you applying twice a day? I havebeen doing 1x daily for almost 3 months and don't notice any scalp irritation. I use the liquid.

    Question for long term users

    Hi there!

I am thinking of starting Rogaine Women's 5% (25yr old, Androgenetic Alopecia). I just met with my derm again and am seeing him again in 2 months. I've been putting it off for some time (as I wrote in another thread) for fear of it getting worse and that I was young. But I feel I can't keep stressing, I should just try something (I also need to stop reading blogs that just scare me...)

My question is, for those using it a year +, or long term, has your regrowth stayed consistent? I know some people worry that the effects of Rogaine will wear off, or that you start shedding again, but I can't actually find proof of that. Was curious to hear from people who have actually used it for a while. I know I can ask my derm about this when I see him again, but wanted to get some real users opinions. I'd hate to start, (hopefully) see growth, only to lose it all or be worse off then I started.

    Thanks a bunch :)

    JGTNY

I haven't been on it that long. But I have heard mostly positive info on that topic from the ladies in here. Most seem to be maintaining their results ... They say it peaks after about 9/10 months. I did read maybe two posts from ladies who had a big shed after being on it successfully for a while.... That being said ... It is my understanding that rogaine isnt a "cure" .. It just puts off major hairloss and helps you keep hair longer ... But not forever .... My guess is if you have Androgenetic Alopecia ... Once reach the age that your hormones go nutty ... It probably wont be much help anymore...idk...i could he wrong... Right now its working great for me so I am.happy :)

But I hear ladies talk about regrowth, so I don't believe it just keeps what you have.

There is definitely regrowth .. I have had great results. I dont think it is a "cure" though for Androgenetic Alopecia... It just helps you keep and revive some follicles. Preventing major hairlosd for as long as it can... If that makes sense.

I have posted pics in here a few times... The rogaine and latisse has def regrown hair on my scalp and and filled my crown in.... But if I have Androgenetic Alopecia ... It hasnt "cured" that .... And eventually the Androgenetic Alopecia may win. Luckily most of my hairloss was due to other issues

If I could grow some and keep what I have for another 10 years I would be so happy. I told myself I was not going to go down this road but I am going to do it.

Try it ... If it works you'll be thrilled ... If not... Then you can stop wondering if it will help. :) ... It definitely was worth it for me ... Good luck!

I was using the 5% once a day for 1.5 years before the itching started. Bodies are weird! So my tapering took me to every other day, sometimes 2 if I was super itchy. I have to guess, but it was about a month when I started noticing all the hair on the bathroom floor.

I started using Rogaine December of 2014, doing it every other day until about April 2015, at that point, I went to once a day use. I started seeing less hair fall Feb 2015 and in April 2015, I noticed more hair on my head. My part was tighter and just my hair looked fuller. That was when I knew it was working for me, so I started using it every day. In Oct 2015, I realized overall fullness to my hair and my pony tail was thicker. I have not experienced any major shedding since starting on Rogaine, and my shed is definitely less that before I used rogaine, so I can tell it is definitely working for me. I just hope it keeps working. If I get to keep the improvements I have gotten for the next 10+ years, I would be super stoked. I am using the 5% foam.

I've been using rogaine for over 3 years. It allowed me to regrow a ton of hair. My hair looks amazing. I still go through high sheds occasionally but I always get a ton of regrowth after each shed. I struggled with starting rogaine for a year before I actually started it and I wished I had started sooner. It saved my hair and in turn, saved my happiness. You would never ever ever think I suffer from Androgenetic Alopecia.

JeHope (and other users), how do you apply it? Do you make sure the product touches all of the scalp area you are trying to reach or does it spread? I am really struggling with my application. I do 5 parts and apply to the scalp area in the part and try to spread it around (I use foam), but I know I am only make it contact a fraction of my scalp.

Thank you for writing this. I have been putting off using it for a while now - I see people rave and post positive results, then I scare myself by reading internet posts (wrinkles, will make it worse, will stop working...you name it I've searched for it). I need to learn to avoid Googling things :)

I get worried if I start I'll have bad side effects or it'll make it worse, or that it will stop working after a year. But hearing you've been on it 3+, that means a lot. Thanks for giving me hope.

Not sure if you mentioned this somewhere else, but do you use the 5% foam?

I was very scared to start it. I am one week in so I obviously do not have much to report. My shedding has actually slowed down a lot, but I might still get that dread shed at some point. All that I can say is that I am so happy I gave this a shot. If it does not work after a certain amount of months, then you will know its not for you (some say 3 while others say 6). That is not a long time to give it a shot. Also, if I get weird hairs growing then I can stop using it and it will go away. I just know that emotionally I feel soooo much better after one week of use. I use the foam and while I cannot compare it to other products as I have not used them, I can say my hair looks totally fine and exactly the same. Might give me a little body and improve how it looks after styled. I will definitely report back when things start to happen (good or bad....really hopeful for good). You can get the 5% foam for cheap at Costco.
