Not sure if anyone remembers me...a positive update!

Discussion in 'Success Stories and Positive Outlook' started by kitkatkitkat3, Jun 11, 2012.

  1. Hi girls.

Ive not been on here for a year and a half now, but I came across the link in my favourites when having a clear out and thought I would update.

For those who don't know me, I had an Androgenetic Alopecia diagnosis in 2009 aged 22 and started rogaine after months of dithering over it. I had a good rate of improvement, and I have continued to use it ever since, I have been on it almost 3 years.

I grew back enough hair to cover the areas I worried about, but did not grow back all of the hair I lost. I have maintained since then - I go through regular shedding and regrowth, especially in the summer, but overall my hair is stable and has not got worse. I would definitely recommend rogaine to those who are thinking about it. I have not had any of the side effects, e.g. on my skin etc.

I am posting a couple of pictures of me now - you should be able to find my original pics in my old posts, I dont want to dig them out really!

Overall life is WAY better now than it was a few years ago. I so rarely think about my hair - and that is great. In December I am marrying my boyfriend of 9 years - and where I once imagined I would be in a wig, I am going to be wearing my own hair up (maybe with a few sneaky extensions!!). These pics are from our engagement drinks. I will not leave them up for too long but I hope these help someone...I know how much I needed help just a few years ago xxx

Good for you! It has long been my opinion that young women who are still producing hormones stand a better chance at a positive outcome.

Awesome awesome improvement! I know you had taken Iron for some of your success early on, and you started rogaine too?

That gives me a lot of hope because I am on iron and about to begin rogaine! I wouldn't even know you suffered from hair loss in your pics...you're gorgeous and I'm so happy you found love! Congrats!

Thanks for sharing your story. I came on tonight to read some success stores because I am trying to remain hopefully! I read that you thought it was your iron, do you know how low it was before? Also, was your BF with you during this whole time and what was his reactions to your hair when it was at it worst? You look great! Congrats on the wedding! :)

    Hooray, Kitkat,
I do remember you. We were both in the same boat at the beginning of the Rogaine journey.....
And we still have enough hair so noone would ever think we have ever dealt with hairloss : )
    Wishing you a wonderful ceremony.
  13. Thank you all for your kind wishes.

Curlyhair - I dont exactly remember my ferritin level, I think it was really low, about 8 or something and I did take supplements but in hindsight I dont think it had anything to do with it, it was just something the doctors said to me to fob me off before I insisted on the derm referal and got the Androgenetic Alopecia diagnosis.
Yes my fiance has been with me since age 18 so he has been with me from thick hair, to thin hair, to wearing a topper, to slightly thicker hair again - and through all the nights of sobbing, crying and showing him delightful gobs of hair I had got after combing/showering. He never once commented on it looking thin - he just told me he would love me if I had no hair. He went through 3 years of not even being able to touch my hair I was so paranoid about it - now I will happily put my head on his lap and let him fiddle with my hair like he used to! I'm a very lucky girl!

Congratulations! You look just beautiful and so does your hair. Thanks for sharing, I need that glimmer of hope that things will be close to normal again (hairwise).

Best Wishes for a long and happy married life!

Oh wow! Your hair looks wonderful by any standards!!! :bravo: I dug out your earlier pics too and the change is amazing. Congratulations and thank you so much for posting. This is EXACTLY what I needed to hear today - I had my first visit to a derm yesterday and, although I'm waiting for blood test results etc, he seemed pretty confident that it was at least partially Androgenetic Alopecia related. When he said that I nearly wept. I just heard the word 'genetic' and though 'NO HOPE'. Thank you so so much for showing me that I'm wrong and there's still hope. :bravo:

PS. also, I know you are based in London (I am too) and I was just wondering which derm/ other specialist you saw and what you thought of him/her?
  17. I saw someone else at St Thomas before Fenton - a lady, cant remember her name but she completely fobbed me off whoever she was!

Don't despair - there is definitely hope! x

Thanks! I had my first appointment with Dr Fenton earlier this week. No official diagnosis yest (just lots more blood taken!) but I liked him and now I've seen your success I will have extra faith in him too.
