My dermatologist prescribed the new drug Xeljanz, after I went Alopecia Universalis after a long two-year battle with Alopecia Areata. It is very expensive, but my insurance covers half and the drug manufacturer co-pay card covers the rest, for now, anyway.

I have been taking it for almost two months now and have vellus hair over my whole scalp and one small patch behind my ear is colored terminal hair. No hair anywhere else yet, but I think this is a good sign. No problems or side effects (yet, anyway). I really think this type of drug is the answer to this autoimmune condition, but like everything new, it is still being tested and hopefully will be FDA approved for alopecia (not just RA) sooner than later. Anyway, if nothing else, it does give all of us with this condition hope!

What a beautiful sight those vellus hairs must be! I hope they become terminal hairs. Keep us posted. :)

Thanks JKSZ. I hope the new research currently being done will lead to better options for Androgenetic Alopecia too.
