    Hello everyone,

I would like to share my story with everyone hoping people could give me any advice or just some positive thinking. I am a 27 year old female and I have been suffering from hair loss since last June. I came off Yasmin straight after my honeymoon last year and I have been shedding hair since. I had been to the doctors who told me six months maximum for the shedding to stop and I pretty much got laughed at for asking what I thought was a reasonable enough question. Anyway six months went by and still I am shedding 11 months later. I recently went to a dermatologist who told me he couldn't see any bald patches so ruled out Alopecia and told me it was Telogen Effliuvium and I had lots of regrowth.

I thought that was a good sign, but recently my head has been itchy with another lot of shedding. It seems to go in stages, just when I think things are getting better my heart sinks again. I had a blood test done last week as they want to check my Iron and Ferritin Levels. Does anyone have a similair story or could tell me how long I have to live with this. It's really getting me down and I feel ugly :(

    Thank you

    Stacey

    Hi Stacey

I had a lot of shedding after my daughter was born (so similar hormone involvement as with birth control I guess). When the initial shed stoppped, it stopped very suddenly. Although it did come back a few times (shedding seemed to be my body's default reaction to anything for a while) the sheds were much less severe and it never got bad enough for anyone else to notice.

Eventually they did find out I had very low ferritin. I don't know if this had caused all the previous sheds, but the iron tablets then sorted it out very quickly.

I hope they find an answer for you soon! When do your test results come back?

    Hi Stacey
I have been shedding for about a year now- It all started when I went off of the bcp Trisprintec (generic version of othro tricyclen) The shed started off similar to the shed after I had my kids however this time it was a little bit more. I am not sure if it was because this was shed #3 in 5 years (2 kids in 2 years then this) or if it is because when going off the bcp your hormones are all dropped and your body needs to make your own- At 38 (at the time) I think my body may have had a harder time "bouncing" back- I am still actively shedding- It slowed down a bit end of summer and since October 2014 I have been shedding around 80-150 a day- My part line is getting pretty thin and it's making me depressed. I have had my hormone levels tested and after having them tested at the wrong time by my endo and telling me I was in menopause, I had them retested by my gyno during the correct time of my cycle and my levels were ok- not in menopause although my estrogen is low. I also am on thyroid meds and they increased the dose the same time I went off the pill- so not sure if that is part of it either. Heading to a hair derm June 5th - may have a biopsy just to have clarification on what the deal is.
I did see a video on utube that a college student went off the pill and she shed for a full year- it gives me hope that this could just be my body trying to correct itself

not sure this helps you at all but lets stay in touch since it sounds like our loss started the same way.

Hi - I was wondering if your hair loss got better? I am going through TE myself, started in August 2015 and still going strong now (Feb 2016). It had started slowing down in Nov/Dec but it picked up again at the end of December and I am now back to shedding tons of hair everyday. I'm now past the 6 months mark...

I have multiple possible triggers so it's hard to determine what exactly caused it: bad breakup, thyroid issues, low ferritin, trying the paleo diet for a couple months and stopping bcp. I am fine now, my thyroid levels are normal, I am eating normally again and I have been back on the bcp since end of August. So I am not sure why it's not stopping. I have another derm appointment this week. Please send us some good news!
